Weekend Wrap Up part 2 - desperately seeking coffee
Sunday morning found us hunting around Marrickville for a little cafe with a big reputation.
Two Chaps is located in Chapel Street Marrickville and honestly, if it wasn’t for the large queue going down the street in front of some 70’s looking duplexes, we would have missed it!
We waited by the sign that said ‘please wait to be seated’ and we were attended to very quickly and courteously.
The place was packed! We had to share a table, like everyone else it would seem.
All manner of diners from the local hipsters (sorry) to the well dressed, the families and quite a few of us older types mixing it up and scoffing down some delicious Mediterranean inspired baked treats.
Now, Mr Newman fancies himself as rather the coffee connoisseur. I won’t use the word ‘pretentious ‘ .....oh, whoops.... but 40 years of living in Melbourne has left its mark on him and it has taken 2 years to find him something that doesn’t resemble dishwater.
Well, the coffee was acceptable, the tea came with leaves - now it would seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many times I have given over the best part of $5 only to find a teabag stuffed unceremoniously into a pot! -Yes, Mr Newman is the pretentious one .
It was noisy, expensive, crowded, delicious and a bit of fun!
We went for a bit of a stroll afterwards, checking our watches to see what time the Tiki Bar in Enmore opened for come 5pm on Sunday, that is where you will find us, cocktail in hand, singing to some great old 60’s music and talking as loud as we can in an effort to stave off the inevitable encroach of Monday and work!
